OUR VALUES >

The Parish values which we as parishioners uphold should be based on the Word of God, the teachings of the Church and our Ampleforth Benedictine heritage. Specifically, we should be a community :

  • in which prayer and worship are at the centre of our lives,
  • which is welcoming and open to all,
  • which is forgiving and is not judgemental
  • which is open to change, led by the Holy Spirit,
  • in which we all share responsibility for the mission of the church,
  • in which we each use our gifts for the benefit of everyone,
  • in which the spirit and joy of the Good News is visibly present in all our actions,
  • in which we respect and value each individual,
  • in which we foster the unity of the Christian churches and the building of good relations with people of other faiths.

    CHRISTMAS CANDLES / FLOWERS:

Christmas Candles/Flowers – as usual we will be having candles around the Church at Christmas. If you would like one please write the name or names on one of the multipurpose envelopes. Mark it "Christmas Candle", enclose £5 and hand in as soon as you can to help us get them ready in good time. Donations towards the Christmas Flowers will be greatly received. Please use the multipurpose envelopes. Write the name/names and "Christmas Flowers".

    CHRISTMAS TREE:

Christmas tree – on behalf of myself and the Flower Arrangers I would like to thank most sincerely all the people who responded enthusiastically to decorate our Church tree. This leaves me personally, more time to organise and coordinate the floral decoration of the church as a whole. The Christmas tree will give great pleasure to many, young and old, and one of the focal points for our visitors to see. Many thanks. Thank you also to the donor of the Christmas tree each year: Gerard Pope at Paul’s Farm Shop. Margaret Hollinhurst.

    UPDATE DELIVERIES:

Update deliverers – if all goes well, bundles of the Christmas issue will be ready for you to take out by Wednesday mid-day. We do greatly appreciate you taking on this task especially at this time of the year, may the weather favour you!

    ARCHBISHOP PATRICK’S GOLDEN JUBILEE:

Archbishop Patrick’s Golden Jubilee of Ordination to the Priesthood, 18th February 2012. The Archbishop will be celebrating Mass in the Metropolitan Cathedral at 3.00 pm on Sunday, 19th February 2012. It will be the Annual Civic Mass, but he will also use the opportunity to invite family and friends, as well as fellow bishops, to the Celebration of his 50th Anniversary of Ordination. It is also an open invitation to clergy and parishioners to join him on this very special occasion. A gift of a specially designed Crozier has been commissioned, and all parishioners are invited to make a donation next weekend if they so wish.

    TWO BIG THANK YOU’S:

Thank you. Sister Elizabeth Molloy – who carries on the work of Sister Helen Reynolds – in Kenya, states the money given to the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions is greatly appreciated at this time and that we have a share in the prayers and Masses of the sisters. Thank you also from the Friends of Mulanje Orphans Malawi where 13 care centres, covering 100 villages in and around Mulanje, are a refuge for children after school. Here they are fed, do activities and learn new skills.
