OUR VALUES >

The Parish values which we as parishioners uphold should be based on the Word of God, the teachings of the Church and our Ampleforth Benedictine heritage. Specifically, we should be a community :

  • in which prayer and worship are at the centre of our lives,
  • which is welcoming and open to all,
  • which is forgiving and is not judgemental
  • which is open to change, led by the Holy Spirit,
  • in which we all share responsibility for the mission of the church,
  • in which we each use our gifts for the benefit of everyone,
  • in which the spirit and joy of the Good News is visibly present in all our actions,
  • in which we respect and value each individual,
  • in which we foster the unity of the Christian churches and the building of good relations with people of other faiths.

He is the only monk of Ampleforth declared a Saint (one of the 40 English Martyrs) and died a martyr in 1642 on the 21st January (but with the change of the calendar in 1752 in Britain the date became 31st January). We can ask him to pray for us all because he was always cheerful despite his sufferings (22 years in prison as a monk / priest) and performed wonderful apostolic work in London.

    WORD OF LIFE:

God will dwell with them; they will be his people (Rev. 21:3)

Not so far off or unattainable, then, is the day when all the promises of the Old Testament will be fulfilled: ‘My dwelling-place shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people’ (Ez. 37:27). It is all happening already in Jesus who continues, beyond his historical existence, to be present among those who live according to the new law of mutual love, the principle that makes them a people, the people of God.

Full text of the Word of Life is available on the cupboards

just outside the piety Shop. Please help yourself.
