OUR VALUES >

The Parish values which we as parishioners uphold should be based on the Word of God, the teachings of the Church and our Ampleforth Benedictine heritage. Specifically, we should be a community :

  • in which prayer and worship are at the centre of our lives,
  • which is welcoming and open to all,
  • which is forgiving and is not judgemental
  • which is open to change, led by the Holy Spirit,
  • in which we all share responsibility for the mission of the church,
  • in which we each use our gifts for the benefit of everyone,
  • in which the spirit and joy of the Good News is visibly present in all our actions,
  • in which we respect and value each individual,
  • in which we foster the unity of the Christian churches and the building of good relations with people of other faiths.

Comments from participants in other Pastoral Areas:

Very moving, I feel I have been fed

Very thought provoking, very successfully structured to provoke a response from me more than I imagined.

A very deep realisation that it is ‘us’ who take the Church forward in Leaving Safe Harbours.

Very successful – it was like being baptised again only knowing about it.

Certainly leaves you with freshness and a positive outlook on faith: a friendly, welcoming and enjoyable experience.

If you wish to attend you must book with Fr. Jonathan or Lesley

by giving your name in. Pamphlets available from the back of Church.

    WORD OF LIFE:

God will dwell with them; they will be his people (Rev. 21:3)

We Christians can live these words even now and have God among us. To have him among us, as the Fathers of the church make clear, there are certain conditions. For Basil, it is about living according to God’s will; for john Chrysostom, it is loving our neighbour as Jesus did; for Theodore the Studite, it is mutual love; and for Origen, it is harmony in thought and in feeling, so as to reach that concord which ‘unites and contains the Son of God.’

Full text of the Word of Life is available on the cupboards just outside

the piety Shop. Please help yourself.
