At every Mass on Christmas Day there will be a second collection for CAFOD. This is the only day in the year we have a second collection after Holy Communion as we know how many of us will be blessed with presents and good things and it is appropriate that we think of those who have very little indeed.
CHRISTMAS EVE VIGIL MASS – 7.00 PM:
Christmas Eve 7.00pm Vigil Mass = Before Mass we will prepare singing carols with the Folk Group. This Mass always has many children present. We want to make it special for them. Five minutes before Mass the Church will be in darkness and we will await the coming of Jesus to the crib with the children in candle light. Candles will be lit when people are in the pews, and those with candles do not process. Children and adults if necessary will be asked to follow the priests up to the crib (not carrying any candles) where we will bless the crib and in this way welcome the Lord as a vulnerable baby among us. Children may like to bring any gift they wish for Jesus that would be suitable for families in need, the homeless or bring some money for those supported by our Nugent Care society (those in need in our diocese) with money in the box provided.
CHRISTMAS DAY FAMILY MASS – 10.00 AM:
Christmas Day Family 10.00am Mass Special moment for the children! We want to give the children something special to do on Christmas Morning Mass. Please dress them up in simple shepherds’ or angels’ costumes and at the start of Mass they will come round the altar (supported by adults if necessary) and process to the crib. If they have any gift for Jesus (suitable for the families in need or the homeless) they can bring them in kind, or even put money for Nugent Care in the box provided. The same children and adults and others will gather round the altar at the Our Father which will be sung as we have done in troubled times, and on Christmas Day in joy.
CHRISTMAS WISHES:
Every good wish at this time for Christmas from all of us in the Priory house, the monks, Sister Veronica, with thanks to so many who have shown us their love and kindness at this time. A special thanks to all who welcome at the door, clear up after Masses, cleaners, flower arrangers and decorators of our Church, including the Tree and the crib, musicians from the choir and the folk group, the servers, the readers, the ministers of Holy Communion, those who donate the Christmas tree, those who give their time for us in any way, with hospitality and service in the sacristy washing the linen or making cushions, those who have given us cards and presents, and probably many others besides. May the good Lord and his light of love grow among us all, giving us an increase in our loving response to him and him in each other so that we may be a beacon of hope for many who are without hope.
BIBLE ALIVE:
Bible Alive – the January copy of Bible Alive is now ready for collection from the sacristy for those who subscribe. If any subscribers wish to cancel or new ones wish to order please let us know ASAP

THANK YOU’S:

MINISTERS OF COMMUNION – NEW ROTA:
Ministers of Holy Communion The new rota starting the weekend 2/3rd January 2010 is in the pigeon-hole in the Sacristy: also list for the Christmas services. Good News about Holy Communion under both kinds.
SWINE FLU:
The Archbishop has written to us that it is now prudent to set aside the recommendations put in place to respond to the issue of infection control and swine flu. He says also "there may be some people for whom a hand-shake in close proximity to receiving communion is not prudent. These people sometimes find great relief in being spared strange looks that meet them when they do not shake hands at the sign of peace. Remember that the manner of exchanging the sign of peace is not laid down. Please do what you can to enable us to leave plenty of space for the expression to be what it needs to be for each one of us. One suggestion was to learn from our sisters and brothers who are deaf and make the sign of peace in British Sign Language.

WORD OF LIFE:
Let your work shine before others, so that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Mt 5:16)
If the good works performed by individual believers have this character, then also the Christian community in the midst of the world must have a similar specific task: to reveal, through its life, the presence of God, which is manifested where two or three are gathered together in his name, a presence promised to the Church until the end of time. In the letter to Titus, it says:’ Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, and sound speech that cannot be censured; then any opponent will be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us’ (Titus 2:6-8)
