JIMMY JONES – RECENTLY DECEASED:
Jimmy Jones aged 60 will be missed by many parishioners. Born with cerebral palsy, unable to communicate easily and with mobility difficulties he lived for forty years in Haig Avenue. His fortitude, courage and faith were inspiring. He was always at Midnight Mass at Christmas and the Masses for the House-bound. A big human being he loved God, he loved people, he loved life. On Thursday, the day he died, he received Holy Communion through a mini-miracle. Jesus was close to him and we can be pretty sure he will be close to us all from heaven.

WORD OF LIFE:
Let your work shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Mt 5:16)
The evangelist is not thinking of isolated acts of charity (such as visiting prisoners, clothing the naked, or any of the other works of mercy responding to today’s needs). Rather, he is thinking of the total commitment of Christians to God’s will which makes of their entire life a good work. If Christians do this, they become ‘unaffected and open’, and the praise given for what they do, goes not to them, but to Christ in them, and through God becomes present in the world. What the Christian must do, therefore, is let this light dwelling within shine out, be the ‘sign’ of this presence of God among people.
