CAFOD Fast Day Collection:
Thanks to everybody who gave to CAFOD’s Harvest Fast Day. Our Parish raised £292.65 which will help poor communities to survive the devastating effects of the financial crisis, together with much other money we have sent as well. Geoff O’Donoghue, international director for CAFOD, says: "The generosity of parishioners is overwhelming. Even at this difficult time, when we’re all feeling the effects of the recession, you continue to fund our work. By supporting CAFOD, you’re sending a message to the world’s poorest that they are not alone. Your money is precious, so we’re doing all we can to make it go the extra mile. Providing food, water and healthcare, and helping people make a living in safety and with dignity are top priorities. Thank you – on behalf of all the people we work with – for you donations."
Thank You for Your Donations:
S.V.P., The Parish, Youth Group and HCPT Group 56 would like to thank the very kind person who made anonymous donations to help their funds. Thank you.
Today is World Mission Sunday:
We have the opportunity to actively support the mission outreach of the Church. We share in the work of missionaries and the young churches as they Reach Out with Love, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances. The Church across the world, especially where it is young and poor, depends on our spiritual and material offerings for its survival and growth. The money collected today will go in its entirety to support mission projects worldwide.
World Mission Sunday:
There are a few Mission magazines in the Narthex, please help yourself. If anyone would like a mission box, please contact Joe or Teresa on 01772 621595. Thank you.
Do you enjoy singing?
If so, please come and join us as we prepare the Advent and Christmas liturgies. You will be most welcome addition to our small friendly group. The following humorous notice appeared in a church bulletin – ‘Eight new choir robes are currently needed, due to addition of several new members, and to the deterioration of some older ones.’ Your Choir needs you! For more information, contact Delia on 01772 422565. It is lovely to see a new young face in the 11 o’clock choir these past two weeks!

WORD OF LIFE
By standing firm you will win true life for yourselves.
(Luke 21:19)
It is possible to distinguish two categories of people: those who hear the invitation to be true Christians, but this invitation falls on their souls like a seed on rocky ground. There’s lots of enthusiasm, like when you set fire to straw, but afterwards nothing remains. Then there are those who welcome the invitation, just as good soil receives the seed. The Christian life springs up, grows, overcomes difficulties, resists storms. These are the ones who stand firm and . . . "by standing firm you will win true life for yourselves".
At the Prison last Thursday various prisoners thanked those parishioners who went to share the Word of God with them. It brings these prisoners "life" and one man who said nothing the whole evening came over specifically to thank parishioners; another said "I am set up for the week now to face whatever comes". Remember the power of the Word of God is not just personal but is there to be shared: what God does in his Word. It may be lost otherwise.
