Saints this week We have two pictures of recent Saints: St Therese of Lisieux and Padre Pio, a picture of the statue of our Lady of Walsingham and St. Ceolfrid this week.
Padre Pio May 25, 1887 – September 23, 1968 born Francesco Forgione (same as our Leyland parishioners) who was a Capuchin friar and priest, famous for the stigmata.
St Therese or Lisieux 2 January 1873 – 30 September 1897 was French Carmelite nun, a Doctor of the Church and patron of Missionaries. Her relics will visit us this coming week
Saint Ceolfrid was born in Northumbria in 642 and died on 23 September 716 on the way to Rome in France. Abbot of Wearmouth and was important for his work as a scholar and bringing England into line with Rome.
Walsingham Shrine founded in 1061 is known as England’s Nazareth and when people could not reach Rome, Jerusalem or Compostella they went there for centuries.

Jesus is not encouraging you to be inactive or passive about earthly things, to be irresponsible or superficial about your work. Jesus wants to change being ‘concerned about’ things into being ‘concerned with’ things, and set you free from anxiety, fear, restlessness. Indeed, he says: "Seek ‘first’ the kingdom . . ." ‘First’ means ‘more than anything else’. The search for God’s kingdom is put in first place, but it does not exclude the Christian from being concerned with the necessities of life. "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness . . . "means, then, living up to God’s demands made manifest by Jesus in his Gospel. Only by seeking the kingdom of God does the Christian experience the marvellous power of the Father working on his or her behalf.

Saints of the Week (continued)
Saint Matthew is the Evangelist of the first Gospel and is responsible for the Words that give life under the Holy Spirit. Traditionally he is known as the tax collector who left everything to follow Jesus. Like all the apostles he was martyred like Jesus.
